Social Media

Facebook

Particularly in light of the Local Plan review in 2015 and the proposed/rejected/appealed 300 dwelling new, greenfield development at Lee Hall, we have been contacted by many local residents for information. One suggestion has been that S.W.A.N. should have its own Facebook group. The internet and social media is a great tool for connecting with people. Used by many community groups, it can be as a means of informing, sharing information and opening dialogue with people.

In order to connect better with local residents and those interested in planning issues and how they affect Westhoughton, a new S.W.A.N. S.W.A.N. Facebook groupFacebook Group has now been set up. People will have to join to view and make posts. It will be possible to add relevant links and photos.

There are now over 200 members of the Facebook; connecting local people with our cause - sensible and sustainable development in Westhoughton.

We would be interested in your experiences of living locally; you views on building, amenities, and in particular experiences of commuting, whether by road or rail.

Twitter

As well as Facebook, a Twitter account has been set up S.W.A.N. on Twitter@SWAN_online.

The Twitter feed connects the group with external bodies concerned with planning, as well as government and local planning policy. Articles or newsworthy items will be shared. The Twitter feed is now on the website home page.

Community

S.W.A.N. will often have a presence at community events and is a member of the Westhoughton Community Network which brings together the wide range of groups and volunteers within the town doing good work. The WCN website is very popular and is a good source of community-related information - many local groups, including S.W.A.N., have information pages to promote what they do.
